History of Davie

Davie, Florida, is a charming town in Broward County, located just 24 miles north of Miami. With a population of over 110,000 as of the 2020 census, it holds the title of the largest town in Florida by population. Part of the vibrant Miami metropolitan area, Davie is known for its unique blend of modern living and Old Florida charm, where horseback riding is still a common sight, thanks to its rich history of ranches and Western-style establishments.  Known as a "Cowboy Town," the 72,000 square foot venue at Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie regularly hosts professional rodeos during the rodeo season.

Long before European settlers arrived, the area was home to the Tequesta people, who inhabited the region for thousands of years. Evidence of their presence, including campsites and graves dating back 5,000 to 7,000 years, has been found in Pine Island Ridge. Over time, Spanish colonization and British rule led to significant changes in the indigenous population, with many Tequesta either relocating to Havana or assimilating into the Seminole tribe.

Originally called "Zona," the town was later renamed Davie in honor of Robert Parsell Davie, who played a key role in its development, including building the first school in the area. Today, Davie spans approximately 35.7 square miles, with lush landscapes, scenic waterways, and a warm tropical monsoon climate that brings hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters.

With a strong sense of community, Davie is home to over 35,000 households and nearly 25,000 families. It offers a welcoming atmosphere, excellent schools, and a mix of suburban tranquility and equestrian culture, making it a fantastic place to live, work, and explore. Whether you're drawn to its history, outdoor spaces, or modern amenities, Davie is a town that truly has something for everyone.
