Parkland, Florida, is a picturesque city in northern Broward County, known for its lush green spaces and commitment to preserving its natural beauty. The city was officially incorporated on August 12, 1963, after a legislative push led by Representative Emerson Alsworth and inspired by local farmer, rancher, and veteran Bruce Blount. Originally called BBB Ranches, Blount envisioned a rural, open-spaced town that would remain untouched by Broward County’s rapid development. To reflect this vision, the name "Parkland" was chosen, highlighting the city’s dedication to maintaining a peaceful, park-like atmosphere.
True to its name, Parkland’s zoning laws were carefully crafted to protect its serene character. In fact, the city had no stores or traffic lights until the late 1990s and early 2000s, when communities like Heron Bay and Parkland Isles were developed. Throughout its early years, equestrian culture was so prominent that horses actually outnumbered residents. Even today, Parkland remains a haven for nature lovers, with an abundance of parks, trails, horse ranches, and green spaces that emphasize environmental conservation.
As of the 2020 census, Parkland is home to 34,670 residents who enjoy a unique blend of suburban tranquility and modern convenience. With its strong sense of community, top-rated schools, and commitment to preserving its natural charm, Parkland continues to be one of South Florida’s most desirable places to live.
